Steam Sterilizers in Veterinary Medicine

In veterinary clinics and practices, steam sterilizers—commonly known as autoclaves—are typically used. Instruments are placed in specialized sterilization containers and, once sterilized, can be stored in a germ-free state. Regular cleaning and maintenance of steam sterilizers are essential. Only demineralized water should be used for sterilization and steam generation. Most steam sterilizers have built-in cooling systems that quickly prepare instruments for use. The sterilization process involves multiple cycles of steam pressure (1–2 bar) and vacuum pressure. The hot steam reaches temperatures of up to 134°C. These multiple cycles ensure that every part of the instrument is thoroughly sterilized.
