Almost everyone who has visited a doctor has had their blood values analyzed for some reason. A distinction is made between a complete blood count (CBC) and a basic blood count. Blood analysis involves various values that are often difficult for a layperson to interpret. A basic blood count can indicate inflammations in the body by determining the leukocyte count, also known as white blood cells.

The normal range for adults should be between 4,000 and 10,000/µl. The erythrocyte count can indicate the iron content in the blood, while hemoglobin provides information about the oxygen levels in the blood, and thrombocytes give insights into blood clotting. A complete blood count becomes particularly interesting. In addition to blood values, it also allows the examination of organ interactions, as it includes the measurement of TSH levels, which indicate thyroid function. The normal range is between 0.3–2.5 mU/l. However, this value alone is not necessarily conclusive; further diagnostics require the measurement of fT3 and fT4. Besides the TSH value, a complete blood count or differential blood count can determine numerous additional blood values related to the lungs, heart, liver, and kidneys.
