The actual Frenzel goggles examination takes place in a dark room or a heavily darkened room. The internal illumination of the goggles interrupts the patient’s visual contact with their surroundings (eliminating fixation that suppresses nystagmus). At the same time, the brightly illuminated eyes can be observed particularly well under the magnifying lenses. This often allows pathological nystagmus to be detected in primary gaze, which without the goggles cannot be recognised, or cannot be recognised reliably, even on lateral gaze. The Type 503 nystagmus goggles allow short examinations to be carried out on the patient. This model enables cordless operation and can be used independently of the mains supply. Power is provided by the permanently upward-mounted, adjustable battery handle, which holds three size C LR14/AM-2 (baby cell) batteries of 1.5 volts each. - with fixed lenses - without batteries
