CLEARTEST® NT-pro BNP heart failure marker
NT-pro BNP is a cardiac peptide hormone produced in the left ventricle.
The test may be required for various reasons, including therapy monitoring. In cases of suspected acute cardiac weakness, for example, the measured value helps the doctor to distinguish whether shortness of breath is caused by cardiac weakness or by a lung disease.

The CLEARTEST® NT-Pro BNP is used to detect the cardiac marker in the diagnosis of heart failure and in follow-up care. The trigger for BNP release is stretching of the heart muscle due to haemodynamic overload of the heart. BNP has a vasodilating effect, inhibits regulation of the body's fluid and electrolyte balance and thus has a decisive influence on blood pressure. The clinical picture of heart failure describes the condition in which the heart is not able to pump the blood back to the heart (left ventricular pump dysfunction). There are many risk factors for this condition; it occurs very frequently in people over 65 years of age, is one of the main reasons for their hospital admissions and increases the risk of sudden cardiac failure ninefold.
