ERLERZIMMER Catheterization Model with Male and Female Genital Insert

These professional training models for the education and practice of transurethral urinary bladder catheterisation in humans were named after Henri Dunant and Florence Nightingale to express our appreciation for these historical figures in nursing. The naming is also intended to reflect the ambition of these models: to be a milestone in nursing education and to set new standards. Both models are ideal training patients and are characterised by the use of high-quality materials that closely match the look and feel of a real person while remaining robust and hard-wearing. The lower body allows the insertion of both male and female genitalia, with the anatomical position of the genitalia and urethra strictly observed. The innovative bladder can be positioned in different locations within the body so that both the female and male genitalia are perfectly connected to the bladder. The shape of the bladder has been adapted so that no resistance is felt in the bladder when inserting the catheter, meaning trainees cannot “feel” the correct insertion depth. An innovative valve is also used in the bladder so that no resistance is felt when the catheter enters the bladder—an outstanding feature that clearly distinguishes the model in quality from other trainers with a classic valve. The bladder is transparent, making the position of the catheter and balloon inflation visible. The bladder is connected to a fluid supply bag
so that fluid flows out after successful catheterisation.

The male genitalia feature a replaceable foreskin that is movable, as in humans, allowing handling and hygiene to be practised. The model has the most realistic urethra of all catheterisation trainers currently on the market. All four sections of the urethra are represented with the corresponding anatomical shape and realistic resistance during catheterisation. By attaching a strap, narrowing of the prostate due to BPH or prostate cancer can be simulated, and the resulting need to use a larger or stiffer catheter can be practised.

The female genitalia are designed so that the flexible labia must be parted to locate the urethral opening. The urethral opening is designed so that it is not immediately obvious, but instead—just as with a patient—requires appropriate care to locate. The urethra provides realistic resistance when inserting the catheter.
