Surgical scalpels and blades are essential tools in medicine for cutting through skin, fat, and muscle tissue. Choosing the right scalpel is crucial for precise tissue cuts. Our range includes disposable scalpels and reusable scalpels with replaceable blades, offering a sustainable option as only the blades need to be swapped. You can select from various blade shapes, such as figure 10 for skin and muscle cuts or tapered figure 11 for delicate procedures. All scalpels and blades are sterile-packaged, ensuring the highest hygiene standards for every procedure.
Scalpels are the essential tools of surgery. In addition to being used in medical practices and hospitals, they are also found in many outpatient clinics for surgical procedures and tissue incisions. The invention of the surgical scalpel is attributed to the German professor and anatomist Lorenz Heister. In the year 1700, he created a blade and a handle designed for anatomical dissections. Before this, surgeons used razor blades, which were neither as precise nor as safe as modern scalpels.
In 1885, Dr. Ignaz Philipp Semmelweis established the first surgical operating room in Vienna. This was a significant advancement, making surgery safer for both the surgeon and the patient. Before this innovation, doctors often came into contact with bodily fluids from previous patients during surgeries without washing their hands or sterilizing their instruments between cases. By this time, knowledge about the human body and medical instruments had significantly advanced. Until relatively recently, single-piece scalpels were cleaned and sterilized after use so they could be reused for the next procedure. Today, however, two-piece instruments are predominantly used. This allows for easier sterilization of the handle while ensuring that the blade is replaced for each use.
Sustainability with Scalpel Blades and Reusable Scalpels
Environmental protection is more important than ever today. Medical practices can contribute by using scalpels with reusable handles, requiring only the replacement of the scalpel blade after each use. When ordering your scalpels and scalpel blades from our online shop, please pay attention to the blade types. You can find details on the available blade shapes in the product images and descriptions. Additionally, all our products are individually and sterilely packaged, preventing the risk of cross-contamination.
Blade Types & Additional Surgical Instruments
Our online shop offers a variety of blade shapes for medical practices and hospitals. In addition to the classic No. 10 scalpel blades, which have a curved back and cutting edge, we also provide No. 11 blades. These have a pointed tip and are frequently used for particularly delicate surgical incisions. Less common blade shapes, such as No. 18 to No. 25, are also available in our selection. We offer brass handles and disposable scalpels, available individually or in bulk packs of up to 20 scalpels. Additionally, we provide individually packaged large packs of scalpel blades. As a scalpel supplier, we offer not only our in-house brand MEDIPARTS but also other well-known brands such as MEDIWARE, AESCULAP, FEATHER, and SWANN. This allows doctors and medical assistants (MFA) to choose the surgical instruments that best suit their practice's needs. Explore our selection of surgical scissors, tweezers, and other high-quality medical tools as well.
