SHELF LIFE OF THE FRX ELECTRODES
Due to the conductive gel layer, electrodes have an expiry date. After this date, the electrodes must no longer be used, as the gel layer can dry out and conductivity is reduced as a result. The Heartstart FRx electrodes have a shelf life of approx. 2 years. The expiry date is stated on the electrode packaging.

USE IN CHILDREN:
For children younger than 8 years and weighing less than 25 kg, special paediatric electrodes are normally used. For the Heartstart FRx, a paediatric key has been developed; this is inserted into the defibrillator during paediatric resuscitation to activate paediatric mode, allowing the normal Smart Pads II electrodes to also be used for children. The shock level is reduced automatically.

Battery for the Physio Control Lifepak 1000 defibrillator. The battery has an approximate service life of 5 years. Please note that the capacity may be significantly lower in older devices, due to the defibrillator’s internal battery gradually depleting (from around 8–10 years).

The Physio-Control Lifepak paediatric electrode set is used for defibrillating children aged 1–8 years or with a body weight under 25 kg. As soon as the paediatric electrodes are connected to the defibrillator, the shock level is automatically reduced. The exact positioning of the electrodes is shown both on the packaging and on the electrodes themselves.

The HeartSave Y is the ideal AED for any first aider and lay user. Short, concise voice prompts guide you safely throughout the entire cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) process, supported by a metronome. The device independently decides whether a life-saving shock is required. A shock is only enabled by the device when it is truly necessary. This ensures that, as the user, you can always be confident that no shock can be triggered accidentally.

In a paediatric emergency, you do not need special paediatric electrodes, as the HeartSave Y switches to paediatric mode at the press of a button.

Using the language selection button, the voice prompts can be switched during operation between up to four languages. In areas with users of various nationalities – industry, airports, public institutions – this increases the likelihood that the HeartSave Y can be clearly understood and used correctly.

To ensure it is always available safely and reliably, the HeartSave Y performs an extensive self-test every day. This checks the technical condition of the AED, the remaining battery capacity and the expiry date of the electrodes. Readiness is indicated by a clearly visible and intuitively understandable “OK” on the device.

The HeartSave Y is a semi-automatic defibrillator. As soon as the AED detects a shockable heart rhythm in the patient, the shock is delivered by the first aider at the press of a button.

Zoll AED Plus can do more than just defibrillate!

The Zoll AED Plus is a fully automatic defibrillator that not only delivers a shock when required, but also guides you step by step through the CPR process. The electrodes have the added benefit of a built-in sensor that monitors your CPR technique and guides you verbally through the entire process; a metronome enables you to perform chest compressions at the correct rate, and clear voice prompts warn you if your compressions are not deep enough, while also providing positive feedback when you are using the correct CPR technique – something that is urgently needed in what is often a stressful situation.

In addition to voice prompts, the Zoll Plus AED features clear visual pictograms on the inside of the unit with LED lights that guide you through each phase of the resuscitation process. These features of the Zoll Plus AED make it an excellent choice for beginners or lay rescuers.

This AED is not only housed in a strong and robust outer casing, it is also highly resistant to contamination by water and dirt. Both the electrodes and the batteries have a generous service life of 5 years, which means you only need to monitor one expiry date and, with a 7-year manufacturer’s warranty (5 years automatically and an additional 2 years if you register your AED with Zoll), you only need to replace the batteries and electrodes once during its lifetime if the AED has not been used. All of this makes the Zoll Plus AED a low-maintenance defibrillator.

Unlike the semi-automatic model, the fully automatic model does not have a shock button. The defibrillator monitors the patient’s heart rhythm and delivers a shock when required.

Zoll replacement gel pads for the Zoll CPR-D training pads

Fitting the new gel pads:

1. Place the CPR-D training pad with the gel side facing up.
2. Remove the old pads. Lift the gel at the green tab, peel it off the electrode and dispose of it.
3. Remove the backing from the new gel and apply it to both sides of the CPR-D training pads.
