Additionally, you will also find a large selection of instrument heads as well as complete sets that include a corresponding rechargeable handle and a case. Important Examination with the Otoscope
The otoscope is primarily used in pediatrics and general medicine, but also in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) medicine. It allows for the examination of the external auditory canal. The examination depth extends to the eardrum. If an insufflation bulb is attached, the eardrum can even be subjected to a pneumatic test. The structure of an otoscope is as follows: handle, also called battery handle, instrument head, and ear speculum. The latter is inserted into the ear canal during otoscopic examinations. Manufacturers typically offer systems consisting of various components. This allows the instrument heads to be changed as needed without requiring a separate handle for each instrument head. This provides advantages both environmentally and economically: on one hand, it reduces waste production, and on the other hand, fewer handles need to be charged. For preparing the examination area hygienically, clinics often rely on surface cleaners, and personnel typically wear protective gloves for safety.
Examining the Eye Fundus with the Ophthalmoscope
Diagnostic instruments used to examine the eye fundus, particularly for detecting changes, are called ophthalmoscopes. During an ophthalmoscopy, the retina and the blood vessels supplying the eye can be analyzed in detail. The devices are equipped with either xenon-halogen lamps (XHL) or LED lamps, providing the necessary illumination. For gentle cleaning during examinations, sterile compresses may be used, and hands can be dried quickly using paper towels.
