With this tester, the fence and the unit can be monitored very easily by means of an indicator light. Three very bright LEDs (light-emitting diodes) flash strongly when the fence voltage is above 3,000 volts. It is almost impossible to cover the essential salt requirement through normal feeding, as grass, hay and cereals contain hardly any salt. Higher temperatures, exercise or even sweating lead to a considerable increased need.
Salts regulate fluid balance, are essential for the nervous, enzyme and metabolic systems and help to regulate the acid–base balance. Deficiencies can lead to weakness, listlessness, muscle wasting and even severe digestive disorders. Therefore, a salt lick should be available for all grazing animals.

In contrast to standard salt, sea salt still contains a range of minerals and trace elements that are hardly found in `conventional´ table salt, in a naturally balanced ratio.
