Mandrins and Indwelling Venous Catheters for Infusion Therapy
Indwelling venous cannulas, also referred to as venous catheters or peripheral venous catheters, are used for long-term venous access. These veterinary cannulas are essential in infusion therapy and emergency treatments. In infusion therapy, the venous catheter serves as the connection between the infusion device and the venous access point. Once the infusion is paused, the cannula is securely and easily sealed using a stylet. Veterinarians can pair these cannulas with suitable infusion devices and accessories to ensure safe and effective administration.
Long-Term and Secure Puncture with Indwelling Venous Cannulas
The needle in an indwelling venous cannula is made of metal and encased in a plastic catheter, typically made of polyurethane (PU) or fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP). When the metal needle is withdrawn after insertion, the flexible plastic catheter remains in the vein, enabling prolonged venous access for several days. Equipped with a Luer-Lock connector, these venous cannulas can be easily attached to infusion devices.
We offer indwelling venous cannulas with an atraumatic tip featuring a three-faceted bevel geometry, ensuring excellent puncture performance. The FEP catheter allows for a gentle venous puncture. Additionally, four integrated radiopaque contrast strips ensure the cannula is clearly visible in X-ray imaging. A built-in injection port enables intravenous medication administration if necessary. For enhanced safety, we also provide safety cannulas equipped with a safety clip that automatically secures the needle upon removal, preventing needlestick injuries. These safety cannulas are also available with an integrated injection port. To maintain proper hygiene during procedures, suitable skin and hand disinfection products are recommended.
